Douglas County FERC Hearing

  • South Umpqua High School 501 Chadwick Lane Myrtle Creek, OR 97457 United States (map)

Join community members at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commissions’s (FERC) public hearing for the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) for the Jordan Cove LNG Export project.

These hearings are part of the federal process for deciding whether or not to issue a certificate of “need” for the Jordan Cove LNG project in order for it to move forward. The FERC must create a DEIS to look at all of the potential environmental impacts the project would have and allow for the public, state agencies, and others to provide comments and input.

We need huge turn out to show FERC and Governor Brown that Oregon does not want this project and hasn’t for over a decade! We hope you can make it to one or more of the hearings to give testimony on why this project is STILL a bad idea for Oregon.

Here are the details for the hearings:

  • Hearings will run from 1PM to 8PM

  • There will be a break for staff between 4-5PM so wait times may be longer

  • The highest numbers in attendance are expected between 5-7PM

  • There will be no formal presentations by FERC staff but they will be present to answer questions

  • To give verbal comments, you will receive a number when you arrive and then be called upon when your number comes up

  • When your number is called, you will give them to a court reporter in a one-on-one setting who will transcribe your comments. You will have a total of 3 minutes.

  •  To reduce potential wait times, there will be four court reporters at each session to receive comments.

  • Verbal comments hold the same weight as written or electronic comments and you may submit comments in every format.

  • Electronic and written comments can be submitted in the following manner:
    1) You can file your comments electronically using the eComment feature on the Commission's website (www.ferc.gov) under the link to Documents and Filings.  This is an easy method for submitting brief, text-only comments on a project;
    3) You can file a paper copy of your comments by mailing them to the following address.  Be sure to reference the project docket numbers (CP17-494-000 and CP17-495-00) with your submission:

    Kimberly D. Bose, Secretary
    Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
888 First Street NE, Room 1A
    Washington, DC  20426

  • Protests, disruptions, and other distractions will be evaluated by Commission staff on a case-by-case basis.  Should an activity significantly disrupt the session or result in an unsafe or unwelcoming environment, staff may choose to end the session for a set time or entirely.
